That's a good point about not having the interview "set up".

I just thought back and i was around 1990 the last time i had a legit (didn't know the company or have an insider) interview.

needless to say, i got every job i went for since 1990..

good luck SON.

limp/soppy/weak- makes me go all sicky at the back of my throat and has ended many interviewees chances before their arses hit the chair.

No soppy handshakes?

You mean no limp handshakes? Or no leaving handshakes at all?

Re: Serious tips for job interviews
A good one that popped up on here some time ago (think it was from Dan M) to be asked at the end of the interview: "is there anything you've seen or heard here today that makes you think I'm not the right person for this job".
____
spot on. It allows YOU to sniff out how real your prospects are and also if they say " well it was going ok until you said you xxx" you can then deal with the objection.

TBH, go in motivated, think like you are on your first day i.e. what would my first day/week/month entail. Ask each of them why they joined , when & why .

And finish on a high.

good luck

and no soppy handshakes

ps i woudlnt say anything about the reason you want the job is that you are trying to strongarm your wife out of london...thats a red flag, to me..

Asking for the job probably shows willing.

Do that.

Re: Serious tips for job interviews
Hardest thing I found at interviews, was when they had a 'jokey' part, and if you didn't laugh out loud, 'no sense of humour' was probably noted, despite the 'humour' being cringeworthy unfunny crap, that wouldn't see the inside of a Christmas cracker.

Re: Serious tips for job interviews
confidence is key.
Ask them questions, for example how long have they been there etc. Don't forget, you are interviewing them as well.

Walk in. Slap your codger out. Bang it on the desk and say "You employ me and this bad boy is all yours!"

(Works for both male and female interviewers).

sounds like you get too comfortable and slip into 'friend mode'.
try and stay switched on and in business mode.
take a breath before answering and think about what you are trying to tell them.

That could sound encouragingly confident or unbelievably arrogant.

Re: Serious tips for job interviews
Thank you all for the remarkably good advice.

The problem I have is that I am maybe too relaxed and talkative. I usually get people laughing and everyone is very warm to me by the end of interviews. However, I think that I am almost too light hearted sometimes and people might want to go for a drink with me [a halal one] but choose the other candidate who seems more serious.

Answer this question that will probably be asked:

Why do you want to work for our company?

PS - This is the WRONG answer:
Because I genuinely love burgers
